With a background in conceptual portraiture they also have a inclination towards make-believe images and this is amply illustrated in their surrealistic images. Apart from being shutter bugs on the travel adventures that they undertake, they are wedding and lifestyle photographers as well. Both of them have their own perspectives and this, they believe, helps them to cover the events more wholeheartedly and in their own distinctive ways.
Their dream is to travel the whole world and photograph all of it, but for starters they are planning a trip in a camper-van across Britain.
We had a chance to interview this amazing couple, catch it below:
Luke and Chloe, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.
Chloe - Hello, I am Chloe, a romantic fantasist, tea drinker, food lover, list-maker, photographer and one half of Ocean Meets Sky.
Luke- And I’m the other half, the evil one.
If you could make a master mix-tape of music that is inspiring you at the moment, what would it include?
Chloe - I really like organic, tribal sounds and an emotive, sometimes haunting voice. Bon Iver, Yeasayer, Imogen Heap and Bat for Lashes all fit within that description I think. I also can’t get enough of the voices of Jason Mraz, Beruit and Adele - they’re beautiful.
I couldn’t possibly make a playlist because it would change every day but those artists are a safe bet.
Luke- Kid Cudi. Mogwai, Nujabes, Explosions in the Sky. Ludovico Eunaidi. But mostly Kid Cudi.
What influences the artist within you?
Chloe - Poetry, running across the field at the back of our home and being in beautiful natural areas. Passionate discussions about films and life are hugely inspiring and entirely necessary.
Luke- Long walks in the country, getting lost in the woods, feeling the sun against your skin on a warm summer’s day, and watching the sunset.
When and how did 'Ocean Meets Sky' form? We would love to know about its inception.
Chloe - When we met, I was studying photography and Luke was studying film. Then when Luke’s interest in photography grew it was just a natural progression to work together and eventually it made sense to present a joint portfolio as most of our work was made together.
I loved browsing through your portfolio guys. I liked your 'Curious Wind' series specifically and would love to learn more about it.
Luke- We’d been experimenting with photo manipulation for sometime, and also practicing various methods of achieving cool visual effects in camera, and The Curious Wind was the perfect platform to show off what we had learned. I also wanted to create something with a purpose, and to tell a story that people would look forward to each week, rather than random conceptual photos that look cool but have no meaning. The response to it has been quite overwhelming actually.
Chloe - We had wanted to create something about the energy of the wind for a while. Luke invented the characters and the story and our friend Joel Stagg wrote the words which can be seen on Luke’s Flickr. Then as we shot each image it evolved through everyone’s input.
Take us on your artistic journey so far. How it has been so far?
Chloe - I feel like it’s just beginning. I’ve been taking photos for years without really knowing why but just enjoying it. We still have places to go but it feels really promising right now.
Luke- It’s been hard at times. It really has been a journey of self discovery, because for a long time I thought I wanted to be a filmmaker. But photography changed everything. I had to start over, and in the process feel like I’ve learnt so much about myself and what I’m capable of.
What has been that ah-ha moment for both of you during this journey?
Chloe - It’s only since working with Luke that I’ve felt my work’s had any real direction. It was pretty aimless until then. I enjoyed what I did but I didn’t know where I was going.
Luke- When I realized that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Let's have a rapid fire:
Camera you're currently using?
- Canon 40D.
One camera accessory you can't do without?
- Wireless remote.
Your most special click so far?
Chloe- I’m really fond of this photo as it was one of my first attempts at levitation and it was taken in one of my favourite places.
Luke- Easily my favourite. The light and atmosphere was just magical.
Your favorite time of the day for photography?
-The hour either side of sunset. Golden hour and that blue light you get when the sun’s just gone down.
Your favorite subject for photography?
Chloe- Myself haha. I like self-portraits. Then I feel ownership of the whole work.
Luke- Cloudy skies.
One photographer/photo blog you look up to?
-Jonas Peterson.
Do you have any dream project?
At the moment, a British photo tour. Then, the world.
Share the best compliment you've ever received for your work.
Chloe - Being shortlisted for the Bar-Tur award 2011
Luke- Receiving the Editors award choice three times on 500px.
Many other artists would look up to you for inspiration. What message do you have for them?
Chloe - Go outside at least once every day. Photograph anything that makes you feel. Don’t sit on a thought or idea. Write it down, draw it, shoot it. Just create, for life is art.
Luke- What she said.
Thank you guys for taking the time for this interview, we wish you the very best in your endeavor to travel across the world and photograph it.
