Calling 'Nosigner' designs out of the world, would be an understatement. Each design created in this firm is truly a masterpiece and definitely tickles your creative side. They have created beautiful designs out of crazy objects like fluorescent tubes, hangers, egg shells, water glasses(see the image in the left), the Chinese rice noodle and many more.

Nosigner is a Japan-based firm whose founder does not wish to reveal his name and all his designs are labelled as 'Nosigner'. Well, the name of this firm really incites me to know what it actually means.

Give one glance to their projects and the second look is very obvious. They are creative enough to be featured as 'Artist Of The Week' on our blog and we are proud to feature such artists on our blog. Lets know more about their projects and the founder in the interview below:

Please introduce yourself to E-junkies.

We are the design firm for creating essential experiences to envision your brand with designing products, graphic, art, communication, space, architecture. We believe design thinking solves social assignments, and keep working for sustainability, education, isolated locality, restoration for disaster through casting a doubt for stereotype with making fresh design experiences.

I read about the concept of using the word 'Nosigner' for your design firm. I found it wonderful! Would you like to share it with our readers and tell them more about it?

The word design originates from the latin word designare meaning making sign. Eisuke Tachikawa, the founder of NOSIGNER discovered a contradiction, however. He states that the original meaning of design only focuses on the visible elements and void of the invisible design which is the essential part of design in the this age. He delved further into abstracting the word and re-defining it to nosign for expressing invisible part of design.

NOSIGNER investigates beyond form, the invisible background of design.

With the recent opening of the design firm NOSIGNER, it's work has already achieved international acclaim with over 30 design awards both for his designs and philosophy.

Tell us about your project 'Waterful'. How is it done and what is the message you intend to convey through this project?

I exhibited my new work WATERFUL at DETOUR 2010 in Hong Kong. Our work is just a thousand glasses filled with water, which gathered in the city. When it assembled by the thousand, such nothing remarkable thing becomes something which tells the wonder of the water. The glasses from the city reflects unfound beauty of the daily lives. Through this work, I simply wanted to show how beautiful of the material which consists ourselves, and our planet.

Arborism's concept looks very unique. Would you like to share anything about this project of yours?

Arborism table was made from findings of the structural beauty of fractal algorithm and strong of the structure and the concept of rehabilitation for the people who live in a city by natural structure. The design of the unique legs has been configured by the fractal algorithm called "Tree Curve." The interesting factor of the design process is that it was completed not by the arbitrary work of the designer but by the natural logic of the nature itself.

'Shell Chair Raffle Base' is made from discarded hangers and your other project called 'Fluoless' uses used fluorescent lights. Very creative! How did you decide to chose such objects? Was it an environmental move?

I think that the serious thought about the environment is our obligation for the design in the future. However at present, the most of eco-friendly and commercial campaigns all over the world seem to include economic effectiveness behind. They show themselves ethically right but I cannot help the feeling of wrongness against them.

On this point, egg shells can be a suitable material for expressing my concept. The concept of 'consume-less design' is underway called 'Open Source Products' project.

Open Source Projects are the experimental project to seek the way of products without consumption. In this project, I am trying to share everyone how to make design products by own hands without purchasing them such as open source softwares on Internet.

For example, It's possible to share how to make the lighting products made of noodle and egg or egg shell plant pod because their materials are easy to get everywhere in the world.

Rebirth is the one of this project. Egg shells can be very good material. The reason is they have beautiful shape and good structure, biodegradability and yet they are just garbage and you can get them everywhere. The material of egg shell is fragile, but we can make a big structure by dispersing the weakness of the material.

Each of your project is commendable! What motivates the designer within you?

Optimizing.

We have talked about your so many projects. Which project is the most special to you?

It's quite difficult question for me, but if I have to choose one of my works, I choose “Spring Rain lamp shade.”Every product will become trashes one day after we used them. It can be said it is a destiny for all products. So I think it is a responsibility for designer to design a product after it becomes a trash in total for reducing trashes. Thus I reached the idea to make an “edible” product. The Spring Rain lamp shade is the product which is made of “Spring Rain”; the Chinese rice noodle. Not only the Chinese rice noodles, but also all the edible things have biodegradability. When you discard edible products, you can simply eat them. Also, in case you do not eat them, you can discard them in safety way for environment. In addition, when you think about the food crisis which will come about,I think the rule of 'Edible Products' is the suitable rule for the new ecology products.

What's next? Would you like to share your any future projects with us?

As you may know, we Japanese experienced the huge earthquake. When it happened, the afflicted areas were in a harsh condition, and many afflicted people suffering from coldness and breakdowns of utilities. So we started the new project OLIVE for helping them with design on the day after tomorrow from the earthquake.

OLIVE PROJECT : http://www.olive-for.us/

OLIVE is a website where anyone can post their ideas. Therefore, many designs and ideas uploaded on site are posted from the open public. The information quoted and cited comes from various sources.  If there were lives that could have been saved with"Wish you had known"ideas, that is a tragedy. To prevent further tragedies to happen, ideas had to be delivered to the afflicted people as soon as possible. Firstly, we had to find a way to establish an information gathering platform. Japan was fully united, willing to contributing and helping the afflicted, right after the earthquake has stricken. Many designers were seeking ways to contribute to the afflicted people as well. We wanted to provide a platform for these strong wills and contribution, leading them to certain action, and OLIVE has been launched.

Many other aspiring artists and our readers would draw inspiration from you! What message do you have for them?

I believe design would change the world. I would like to collaborate with you for the change.

That was an inspiring interview and it was a wonderful experience to learn about 'Nosigner'. Thanks for talking to us. OLIVE is certainly a noble project and we wish you all the very best for it!
