Keep Moving Forward.
A business is made out of a lot of small decisions, testing and reworking. It is a process. One thing you need to keep in mind is to continually move forward. Do not let fear get in the way, keep moving and reworking even on those days when it seems too hard and you want to quit.
Action Item: (30 minutes +)
- What are you avoiding right now? We all have that item that we know will make our business more successful but we keep putting it off. What is just one thing that you could do this week?
- Write down a time in your calendar to spend at least 30 minutes cranking on it. These things are what makes a business move forward! (especially things that can be scary, like public speaking or cold calling!)
Set Yourself Apart.
You might be a unique and amazing person, but your business will most likely look like a lot of other businesses. You don't want that. You want everyone to remember your business over your competitors. Ask yourself, “How can I stand out as the best choice for my audience?”
Action Item: (20 minutes)
- Grab a blank sheet of paper. Brainstorm 10 ways to set yourself apart. Make them crazy and wacky.
- Pick one or two that represent the core of what you want your business to be.
- Write them in a place you will see them often! (They only work if you use them!)
Accountability and Support is SO Important!
Some people in your life might think you are crazy for being an entrepreneur. You might even think so too occasionally! When that happens you need to already have accountability and support.
I'd suggest either finding another entrepreneur to become accountable to, or create a mastermind group of 5 to 7 entrepreneurs that meets weekly and discusses business.
A support structure is important because:
- First, you are never going to know everything. Talking with someone else in business can give you another opinion, experience and quality advice.
- Second, you can keep each other accountable. I suggest listing your goals at the end of every meeting that you want to accomplish by next time. (You can even tell everyone to kick you in the butt if you don't do them!)
- Third, we all need support. It can feel lonely running your own business when you are first starting. You may fail. You may face obstacles. You need to know that someone is supporting you even when you fail.
Action Item: (20 minutes)
- Write down the names of 7 people that you know that are business owners.
- Suggestion: Try to make them all more successful than you are.
- Create an email explaining either a mastermind or accountability partner and ask if they would be willing to join you. Send it out to the list.
- Suggestion: Send it out one at a time. That way you can update the next email with who else is in the group (if you are looking to create a mastermind)
What do you think stops you from moving forward in your business? How have you overcome some of these obstacles?
