There is no doubt that creativity and innovation are at the heart of the most successful entrepreneurial businesses.
Creativity is about making connections between previously unrelated ideas, learning from mistakes and successes, and trying new things.
I think you might be pleasantly surprised the strategies employed by some of the most successful and creative entrepreneurs are ones that you can adopt for your own business. But don’t stop there. You may want to use these simple strategies for all areas of your life!
What if something doesn’t work the way you want?
Melinda Gates, balancing being a Mom and co-founder of one of the world’s largest foundations, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is working to solve world hunger and disease. She has a simple and effective answer to this question.
"We will get out there and try something," she told Vogue “If it doesn't work, we will try something else. And we will keep trying until we find something that works."
Check out Fast Company for bits of wisdom from their pick of the top 100 most creative people in business which included Melinda Gates.
How do you generate innovation?
According to Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, he says that innovation is about moving quickly and trying a lot of different things.
Do you notice that Melinda Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are essentially saying the same thing?
If you are willing to try something, without worrying if it will work or not, it will give you the freedom to choose the best possibilities and let go of what doesn’t work.
How do you get the results you want?
Define what you want as an end result without the specifics. “Thoughts become things” is the motto behind Mike Dooley’s very successful business as an author, speaker, and creator of Notes from the Universe at http://www.tut.com.
He says it all starts with your imagination and thoughts about what you want. And then you must take action toward it with small steps. You don’t have to figure out exactly how it will happen but you must consistently take steps in the direction of your dreams.
He also suggests that you visualize your end results for no more than 5 minutes a day.
You can do that, right?
How can you simplify your life?
I’m willing to bet that no matter what you want your business or life to look like, you sometimes feel overwhelmed.
Often the reason people start their own business is to have more flexible time and to do the kind of work they enjoy most. Yet wearing the many hats of an entrepreneur plus balancing your personal life can feel like you are getting just the opposite.
Leo Babauta, author of the Power of Less, successful blogger of Zen Habits, , and father of 6 children has learned from his mistakes and successes how to simplify life and still be very productive.
Many of the ideas are simple but not always easy. In order to simplify, you need to make some hard choices.
For example, he suggests eliminating all but the essential things you need so that you can focus on what you really want. That includes stuff, commitments, to do lists, emails, etc.
