LinkedIn has decided to become the 'Facebook' of professional social networking by launching its latest platform enabling users to build a professional/formal web presence.
Focusing on the business aspect of social networking, LinkedIn now offers 'share button', 'member profile', 'company profile' and 'recommendation button' as widgets that can be added on third-party websites; users can also log in to other sites using LinkedIn.
Here's an overview of how you can leverage these latest features rolled out by LinkedIn:
Share Button
Share button lets you share your website, blog or any link of your choice within your LinkedIn network; thereby driving traffic to your site.
Company Insider
A plugin that lets you include company information like, all the professionals working with the company along with their networks, new hires, job profiles of employees; users can follow a company and receive all the latest updates, insights and news.
Member Profile
A very useful widget that allows you to embed your LinkedIn profile as a summary card on your website. You can also choose to include only a logo with your name, and clicking or hovering the mouse over it will reveal profile summary.
Company Profile
For those who wish to embed a company profile rather than their own, can use this widget on any site of their choice. You can include basic company information like summary, location, logo and number of employees. This widget also allows others to follow a profile to receive all the insights, news and latest updates.
Full Member Profile
Unlike 'member profile' mentioned above, this widget lets you display your complete professional background on your site. Rather than concentrating on your network, it concentrates on your work experience and educational background.
Recommend Button
'Recommend' button for LinkedIn is what 'Like' button is for Facebook...and also what +1 is for Google. A widget that allows users to recommend your products or services to other professionals within their network and also drives traffic back to your website.
Other than these features, you can also allow your visitors to log-in or register with your site using their LinkedIn profile.
Although I am not a very big fan of LinkedIn, but with these latest additions and ability to be social professionally has definitely convinced me to atleast give it a shot.
Here's what LinkedIn's VP and Product Manager, Adam Nash has to say about their brand new 'Professional web platform', "As developers ourselves, we wanted to give you a featherweight to light up your site and increase engagement without any costly development overhead." Further adding, "We've also made significant infrastructure improvements to the platform itself. The JavaScript framework now loads significantly faster, and we've added SSL support and more robust OAuth support. So if you're looking to integrate with our platform at an even deeper level, I think you'll be pleased with the progress we've made."
So, if you wish to include any of these latest features to your LinkedIn profile or website, you can give it a try here. And yeah, do share your feedback in the comment section below.
