2011 seems to be a good year for Blogger, since Google has finally decided to pay attention and face-lift one of the most popular and widely used blogging platform.
Not too long ago Google unveiled brand new interface for Blogger with quite a few interesting features that'll be introduced throughout 2011. Yesterday, 5 new dynamic views for Blogger were rolled out giving authors the ability to customize the layout of their blog using AJAX, HTML5 and CSS3 technology.
These five new views is a refreshing change enhancing the experience of reading a blog. These views can only be accessible if the author of the blog chooses to implement them for his/her readers, although it seems that currently Google is testing these changes and may include it in default settings sometime in the future, based on the feedback that they receive.
Before I give a brief on each of the template introduced, let me tell you about some basic changes introduced:
- Infinite Scrolling
- New Layouts
- High Speed Download
- Better Interactivity
Here's an overview of these 5 brand new templates that might change Blogger as we know it:
Flipcart
This template displays thumbnails for images arranged neatly in rows and columns. If you hover on any of these images, it will display the title of the post, date of publishing, and number of comments. A template that can be a favorite for photographers, artists or travelers. Clicking in the image takes you to the post and lets you discover other posts in the blog. Also, you can use keyboard shortcuts to navigate through posts using 'J' for older posts, 'K' for new ones or arrows keys; 'Esc' button takes you back to all posts in Flipcart view.
Mosaic
One of my favorite views that displays images as a mosaic. Hovering on any image displays the title of the post, and clicking on them will take you to the post; clicking again will take you back to mosaic view...visual candy if you ask me. Same keyboard shortcuts apply here too.
Snapshot
This template displays images like Polaroids, with the number of comments on a particular post. Hovering the mouse on each image displays a shot snippet of the post, clicking on which takes you to the article.
Sidebar
This template divides the blog into three sections: Left column, with an enlarged image and short snippet of the post displayed in chronological order; Middle column, with post title and a short snippet; and the right column with displaying post titles.

"These new views are available on all public Blogger blogs, with feeds fully enabled." describes Antin Harasymiv, Google software engineer, further adding, "We're previewing these templates early on so we can incorporate your feedback for a wider launch soon."
