Google has recently made another attempt to step into the social networking world by giving Google Profiles a makeover. It was launched in 2007, but was unknown to many until 2009 when users could opt for public view; resulting their profiles turning up in Google search results.

Just when we thought that Google has given up on a social website of their own, they throw another ray of hope and are only making their loyal users anxious and a little bit disappointed. "While profiles work well for individuals, we'll continue to work on new ways for businesses to engage with their customers, so stay tuned for updates." announces Google.

Google's Product Manager, Greg Marra explains:

"We think this new design helps highlight the information that's most important to you, making it easier for people who visit your profile to get to know you. As the new layout gradually rolls out, current users of Google Profiles will notice that their existing profile will automatically update to the new style. To update and add to your profile, simply click on new "Edit Profile" button."
The buzz around the web is that this latest design is very much similar to Facebook, you can add images on 'Scrapbook', include occupation, employment, education, relationship status and add other links. But rather than updating a status, you can have a self-description of not more than 10 words - "10 Words That Describe You The Best", you can write more about yourself in the 'Information' section.

Well, this is just the beginning, and we will have to wait and watch is Google's much speculated 'Google Me' or 'Google+1' is just a myth or Google's secret weapon to give Facebook a run for their money.
