Who knew that such a day would come when we would rely on social media so much that even our plants will have to remind us to water them.
Botanicalls is a device that sends you a tweet every time it needs to be watered. Its previous model was designed to call you on the phone as a reminder, but who talks on the phone anymore? A tweet is all we need.
"Botanicalls Kits lets plants reach out for human help! They offer a connection to your leafy pal via online Twitter status updates to your mobile phone. When you plant needs water, it will post to let you know, and send its thanks when you show it love." describes the website.
The device consists of soil-moisture sensors, that connect to a circuit board. This helps in measuring the level of moisture, and communicating this info to a micrometer.
"Obviously plants can't talk or Twitter directly, so we have to help them along with that. There are settings in the software that allows you to set what kind of plant you're using and also adjust for characteristics of the soil, different soil has different qualities." share Rob Faludi, co-creator of Botanicalls.
The language used in the Twitter messages can be personalized, "There's always basic 'I'm thirsty, could you please water me' message. But they also accelerate in terms of need, so there's an urgent message: 'I'm desperately thirsty, please water me'." Kate Hartman, co-creator of this device shares with Reuters.
Check out this Twitter account of Pothos, a plant with 3,547 followers who reminds its owner: "You didn't water me enough."
