PayPal Mafia is a term used for a community of people who have been associated with PayPal during its early days, a time when PayPal introduced a whole new currency to the world and changed the way people did business. (Learn more)

Erick M. Jackson, a member of the mafia who was PayPal's VP of marketing got together with Christopher Grey, a private equity investor and banker to launch CapLinked. A company that aims to provide a social and secure platform for entrepreneurs and investors, where they can find each other and do business together.

"CapLinked is a free online platform for private companies, investors, and their advisors to network, manage a capital raise or asset sale and exchange updates." describes the website.

It is a place where entrepreneurs can look for potential investors, raise capital, buy or sell assets and connect with advisors and other companies. According to TechCrunch, CapLinked has raised over $900,000 through angel investors which includes PayPal's ex-CEO Peter Thiel and some other members of the Mafia.

Eric Jackson, who founded World Ahead Media and wrote a book called "PayPal Wars" has first hand experience in raising capital for a startup and believes that entrepreneurs should rather concentrate on building their company and not spend valuable time in managing paperwork. Christopher Grey, who is an investor himself has first hand experience in looking for trusted and promising entrepreneurs, he understands how difficult and risk taking it can be to look for investment-worthy companies. One day during lunch they both had an 'aha' moment and decided to come up with a solution that can make things easier for both ends.

According to Peter Thiel, "Startups are tremendous drivers of economic growth, yet the basic mechanics of investing in new companies can be difficult and inefficient, especially for first-time entrepreneurs of people outside venture capital center...CapLinked is providing - for the first time - an efficient online platform that connects entrepreneurs and investors, helps them build relationships, and streamlines the investment process."

The website lets entrepreneurs create a pitch (deal) and invite others to have a look at the idea, they can introduce their deal through documents and presentations, and can control its access. Entrepreneurs can create 'deal rooms' which has information that can be viewed only by those who have been invited privately to view this info. Other than potential investors, companies can also invite advisors, board members and key employees.

CapLinked was launched in October 2010 and has over 2,100 companies with over 1,000 investors. "We want CapLinked to be the go-to platform for anyone who wants to raise capital for a company or project." says Jackson. "If we are successful, we'll be helping a lot of creative disruption." he adds.
