Development of some apps prove that innovation and creativity have no heights. Quick Cite is one such smartphone app that automates the task of putting together a bibliography. This app uses the camera on a smartphone to scan the bar code on the back of a book. It then e-mails you a bibliography-ready citation in one of the four popular styles—APA, MLA, Chicago, or IEEE. It is available for both Android-based phones as well as iPhones for 99 cents.
Quick Cite was developed by seven undergraduates at the University of Waterloo. They set out in November to develop 7 apps in 7 days, out of whoch Quick Site is the only one released for sale. It is available at iTunes store now.
Ross Robinson, one of the student developers said it took them about 8 hours to develop this app. They call this project 'Seven Cubed'. As their website describes, "Starting November 20th seven UW coders will enter an office stocked with food, energy drinks and beanbag chairs to try and write an app a day for 7 days. This is going to be fun."
