Video Blogging is becoming increasingly popular these days and is proving to be quite effective for businesses (big or small). When you think of videos the first obvious name that strikes is 'YouTube', and it offers a partnership program enabling you to capitalize from videos that are entirely created by you.

There are two types of partnerships offered by YouTube: Channel Partnership Program and Individual Video Partnership. Today we bring you a detailed insight of everything you need to know about YouTube Partnership:

What Is YouTube Partnership?

YouTube Partnership is a program that lets you share the revenue generated through videos that you create, upload and share on YouTube. It brings you analytics and content management tools to help you make the most out of this partnership; it protects your copyrights through their Content ID system, while you enjoy design and feature upgrades. Partners can upload videos without any length or size limit, and can offer their videos for rent which are streamed only after the payment is secured.

As per YouTube:
"People worldwide are watching billions of videos every day on YouTube. As a YouTube partner, you can share in the revenue generated when they watch your videos. You can also rent directly to your viewers. And with YouTube analytics and content management tool, you can target preferred demographics and protect your copyrights, while providing viewers with a high-quality branded experience."

Qualifications For YouTube Partnership

According to YouTube they receive thousands of partnership requests every single day and assess each of these requests on case to case basis. However, there are no specific guidelines that can help you in analyzing if you are qualified enough to be considered for this program, but there are certain basic requirements that you need to adhere to in order to be eligible for it:
  • Your videos must be 100% your creation, right from the visuals to the audio in it; no copied content at all, be it cover songs, lyrics, background music, movie or TV visuals, graphics, images or live performances. You must own the videos that you upload.
  • You should have an AdSense account to be able to apply for this partnership.
  • Your videos should be uploaded on regular basis and viewed by thousands of YouTube users. Alternatively, you can be considered for the partnership if your videos are commercially popular, i.e. is you have your own DVDs sold online.
If you are lucky or perhaps extremely popular, you might receive an invitation from YouTube, else you can apply for the partnership here.

According to YouTube:
"When we evaluate applicants for suitability for the YouTube Partnership Program, we look at a variety of criteria including but not limited to the size of your audience, quality of content, compliance with our YouTube Community Guidelines and Terms of Use, and your country of residence."

Making Money

There are two ways in which you can make  money through this partnership program:
  • Display advertisements with your videos.
  • Offer videos for rent. There will be no ads on  your video and you can decide the price and duration of your video. (Please note that YouTube rentals is currently in beta and available for users in U.S. only)
Both you and YouTube share the revenue generated from these advertisements.

"There are no guarantees under the YouTube Partner agreement about how much you will be paid." clarifies YouTube.

Have a look at these Case Studies that will help you in understanding YouTube Partnership better.

Benefits:

  • You can earn a considerable amount of revenue through the videos that you create.
  • You can rent streaming videos directly to your viewers. The video(s) will stream only after the payment is processed.
  • You control your videos entirely through their Content ID system, and through their automated tools you cal also track and block infringing content.
  • Partners can upload content without any length or size limitations.
  • It provides your viewers highly-quality branded experience.
  • Upgraded features like home-page autoplay, channel banner, autoplay feature video, unlimited size for the background image, custom video thumbnails and interactive features makes the partnership all-the-more lucrative.
  • You can also live stream your videos and broadcast your content in real-time.

YouTube Partnership is available in following countries:

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, The Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, France, The United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Mexico, The Netherlands, Sweden and The United States.

Here's a video explaining how YouTube Partnership works:

Individual Video Partnership (IVP):

This is an invite only program through which you can earn revenue from a single video created by you. Unlike Channel Partnership wherein all your videos are a part of the partnership, this program gives you the opportunity to earn money from one of your popular videos; it has nothing to do with the remaining uninvited videos in your account.

"Invitation for this program are sent to the email address associated with your YouTube account, so if you are hoping to receive an invitation, please make sure you have registered a valid and up-to-date email address." explains YouTube.

So basically, if you have one video that has gained huge popularity and received thousands of views, YouTube is likely to send you an Individual Video Partnership invitation; you can also submit an online application here.

This program has certain limitations and some of features and upgradation that you enjoy in Channel Partnership program may not be available here. Nevertheless, popular individual videos do receive some design and feature upgrade. It should go without saying that only original content qualifies here, just like their Channel Partnership program.

Here's a tutorial that explains how you can get accepted in YouTube's IVP program:

Obtaining a YouTube partnership is not an easy task, your videos must have quality and substance in order to qualify for it....and we think thats what counts. So if you think you have what is takes, then you must apply for it...without giving it a second thought. Not just for the money, but for larger viewer-ship and brand recognition. Trust us...it will do wonders for your business.

YouTube has recently added three new countries for the partnership program: Israel, Poland and South Africa.

Very helpful guys! thank you very much.
I dont have so many hits (1500total) on my videos yet, but have near 500 vids uploaded. Do you think I will qualify yet, or shall I wait so as to avoid the 2 month application delay after a failed application?

Like we said in the article that YouTube works on case to case basis, if you think that your videos unique and substantial enough to compel YouTube to partner with you...then go ahead and give it a shot.

But if you have certain doubts, then perhaps you can work on increasing viewership first and then submit your application.

Hope you found this to be helpful. :)

Unfortunately YouTube partnership is available in limited countries only, and unless your country is listed with them you will not be able to become a partner. Lets just hope that your country is added soon, until then I don't believe there is any other way to get listed with them.

I relieved an invitiation yesterday to be in the individual video partnership program just like you showed in your video, so I did everything you did and made my Adsense account, and about 10 minutes later I got an email saying my Adsense account was accepted, and there are ads on my video now, does that mean I am all set and Youtube accepted my video? On my Adsense account it says i've already earned $9.42 so it seems to be working, I just want to be sure. And by the way, I don't think there are any requirements to get a IVP invitation because the "popular" video they wanted to put ads on only has 352 views, and it's my most viewed video. My channel only has 879 views and I have 1,250 total upload views, with 122 subscribers. Did I just get lucky or what?

    Hi Noah

Congratulations, it seems you are a YouTube partner now. And since you've already started earning money out of it, and can also see ads being featured on your videos, it means that you are now all good to go. :)

Requirements or pre-requisites for being accepted for YouTube partnership (IVP or CPP) are quite felxible. It is completely on case-to-case basis. So basically it means that your videos carry credibility and value. :) Do share your channel with us, we would love to check it out.

We don't think that'll be a possibility, because YouTube can always track your location and even if it allows you to become a partner with some other address, it will block your account as soon as it figures out that the video is being uploaded from some other location. We recommend that you avoid such a situation and wait for your country to be listed in their partnership program.

As far as YouTube partnership for those under 18 is concerned, the terms are bit ambiguous. But according to us, it is your parents who need to create a YouTube account as well as an AdSense account on their name. While applying for the partnership, they will have to mention that the videos are created by you.

We will work on finding more information on this and keep you posted. Good luck!

Great to know this,But equally sad that you tube partnership program has been provided only for few countries. Please clarify, if you tube partnership programme shall be offered to Nepal also?if so then what would be the pre-requisites for attaining channel partnership in Nepal..Also I would prefer to know about individual video partnership in Nepal. Thanking You.
