Google is about to change the way we check our emails by introducing priority inbox in Gmail.

This new feature will help in segregating emails automatically, in accordance to its priority. It divides mails in three sections, 'Important and Unread', 'Starred' and 'Everything Else'.

"Priority inbox is like your personal assistant, helping you focus on the messages that matter without requiring you to set up complex rules" announced Doug Aberdeen, Google's Software Engineer.

Once priority inbox is activated, 'Important and Unread' section will contain mails with top priority, emails that are flagged by you will go in the 'Starred' section and all other emails in 'Everything Else' section.

When you receive emails, Gmail's algorithm identifies important emails based on several factors such as, mail from senders with whom you interact regularly, mails containing important keywords and static feature ( if the mail is sent solely to you or a list of people). You can also help Gmail in prioritizing your mails specially for you. Suppose an unimportant email is lying in the 'important' section, then you can click on a '-' button provided on the top of you inbox indicating that emails of similar nature will go in 'everything else' section. Similarly, in order to mark important mails, you cal click on the '+' button.

"Over time, Priority Inbox gets better at predicting what’s important to you. You can help train it using the Gmail priority inbox buttons buttons." Google explains.

Gmail's director, Keith Coleman says "We want people to walk away from e-mail and focus on what they are doing at that moment like thinking or reading, spending time with the family or taking part in a meeting. We hope this gives people little more sanity and time in their day."

Priority Inbox will be rolled out for Gmail and Google Apps users over the next week.
