China and Japan has joined forces with the vision of operating one of the largest online marketplace in the world.
Yahoo Japan and Taobao (one of the largest E-commerce sites in China) have jointly launched two sites: China Mall, Yahoo & TaoJapan in Japan and China respectively. These sites has opened doors for merchants in both the nations, who will be able sell their products in each other countries.
Online stores on Taobao in China will be able to sell their products through China Mall in Japan, whereas Japanese merchants will be able to sell their products to Chinese through TaoJapan. These services have surpassed the language barrier by using systems and processes that are familiar to that each country in their native language.
With over 250 million users and about 450 millions products, their vision does seem achievable. The exponential growth of internet users in China (over 400 million) will help in increasing these numbers further. Japan, on the other hand seems to be very determined about reserving a place for it self in the E-commerce industry. Recently Rakuten, Japan's largest online shopping portal has announced its plans to acquire Buy.com ( a company in U.S.); the deal will be signed this month.
Both the sites have gone live today, and with this E-commerce giants like Amazon Inc. and eBay Inc. must prepare themselves to face some more competition, 'coz online marketplace in Asian countries is rising speedily.
