Once upon a time, there was a guy named Josh who was deeply in love with a girl. He saved and saved to buy a perfect engagement ring for his girlfriend, he proposed and she said yes.Days later, when Josh returned home, he was surprised to see his fiancée and all her stuff gone; all that was left was the diamond ring waiting for him on a table. He was left heartbroken.
But the story doesn't end here, there is a happy ending to it.
Months later, when Josh tried to return the ring he was disappointed to learn that value of the ring had gone way down; he was offered $3500 for a ring on which he had spent $10,000.
So what did he do? An optimist that he was, he decided to start a business, which helped people like him to break even with their loss (well, financially at least). Josh Opperman and his sister Mara Opperman co-founded a website called idonowidont.com, it is an online marketplace for selling or buying previously-owned jewellery and other collectibles.
The site helps people sell or buy products like:
- Diamond Rings
- Wedding Bands
- Gemstone Rings
- Loose Diamonds
- Wedding Dresses
- Necklaces
- Bracelets
- Earrings
- Watches & Accessories
They have a highly accredited gemologist who authenticates the jewellery and ensures that the quality matches the price offered by the seller. After thorough verification the jewellery is cleared for sale. Upon finalisation of the sale, the site charges 12% from the sale price; which they claim is a much better deal as compared to selling it to a regular retailer.
Although I am not too sure about buying such expensive jewellery online, but what I learnt from this is that you never know as to when an incredibly creative idea might hit you; you just have to be alert and smart enough to recognise it and do something about it. Just like Josh did, he saw a silver lining during a very rough time in his life , which is truly commendable; breakup was a blessing in disguise for him.
And now Josh married the 'real' love of his life and hopefully they will live happily ever after.
