Benefiting out of someone else's pain has been one of the oldest tactic in the history, but apparently it is not frowned upon anymore.Breakupgoods.com was launched in April 2010, and has already grabbed a lot of attention in the ecommerce world, people are calling it an "eBay version for your EX's stuff".The site helps broken hearts to get rid of their ex-girlfriend or boyfriend's stuff after the demise of their relationship.
"A friend got this amazing deal on a car he found from someone who went through a break-up," said website creator Tom Liravongsa. "I thought, 'Where do I find one of these unfortunate deals?' ...And the idea for a venue was born."
One can find all kind of crazy stuff here: pets, car accessories, aluminium hangers, vacation rentals, homes for sale, classic cars and most interestingly they have a 'Free Stuff' segment as well, where one can just get give away anything that they want to part ways with.
I saw a very cute puppy who is unfortunately homeless due to a recent breakup and is looking for a new owner to adopt him. (He is listed for free)
The site does not charge any insertion fees, so if your list does not get any bids, you will not be charged; and if you plan to sell something below $10, you don't have to give them any sales fee either.
The site is not even 2 months old and has received tremendous response and reviews from several e-commerce forums; I guess their most effective marketing tool is the theme and concept behind the project. It sure is a great start-up idea, but its success can only be measured over a period of time.
