It is a free iOS app that allows you see what other people are thinking in the areas around you. You can learn what others are experiencing in near-by places and add your own thoughts to it.
For example, you are about to step into a restaurant for the first time and would like to learn about the best dish served in there, or perhaps what dish to avoid. Through Echoer, you can read thoughts of people sitting in that restaurant in real-time. This works for any physical location around you, be it the airport, subway, amusement park or a music fest in your town. "It solves the problem of working out which thoughts are worth hearing; elevating the most recent and popular content above the noise. And its been designed to allow you to easily make an impact, either by adding your own voice or amplifying others." describes their website.
Not only can you read what others are saying or thinking, you can also 'amplify' their thoughts, or add your own views to it. "Echoer makes it easy for users to see the most relevant thoughts, events and discoveries around them; elevating the most recent and popular content above the noise."
Echoer is the brainchild of Daniel Cowen and Davin Sufer, who also created a popular app called 'Last Night Never Happened'. Here's what Daniel Cowen shares on Echoer's press release:
"We came up with Echoer after finding there was no way to quickly cut through the noise on other social media. It simply wasn’t possible to see what other people in your immediate environment were thinking. Echoer makes this possible in an intuitive and interactive way, letting anyone see and engage in the hyper-local conversation; finding out what real people are experiencing in the places and events near you.
Echoer is a beautiful and playful solution that lets you to explore your surroundings, and add your voice. We’ve also developed functionality that allows us to work with local companies, places and events to add their own echoes and customize their own Echo Spaces, and have been successfully trialling this in beta with Canadian partners."
Overall Echoer is a great combination of geo-location information, social networking and mobile connectivity, they like to call this assortment 'Thought-ocracy". A concept where people are free to say what they actually feel and leave to others to decide whether that thought counts or not.
Its smart interface displays the most relevant posts about a given location, and interactively places them on a map. The 'loudest echoes' can be seen at the top of the screen in form of bubbles.
What makes this interesting for vendors as well, is that it can help them learn a lot about their current and potential customers. "Bands can know about their fans, professors can learn about their students by seeing at a glance the thoughts that live in a place or event." explains Sufer.
The design and concept of Echoes has already won many accolades, including winning LeWeb 2011 Google People's Choice Award, they were selected as the finalists in the Flurry 2012 awards at SXSW. To get a better understanding of this app and its design, check out the screenshots below:
