Facebook has very recently revealed its potentially one of the biggest acquisition of popular photo sharing app Instagram. The deal has been closed for a whopping $1 billion, in a combination of cash and stock of Facebook. The entire deal will be closed by end of this quarter.

"For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests." shares Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Facebook in itself is undeniably one of the largest photo-sharing platform. Instagram on the other hand has reached 27 million users on iOS alone, and with its recent Android launch, it is expected to have a much larger number of users. But in spite of Instagram's ever-growing popularity, it is out of Facebook's character and culture to go ahead and acquire a booming service.

What's more unlike-Facebook is that, it does not plan to integrate Instagram with Facebook. In fact, Zuckerberg has made it very clear that this acquisition will not affect the essence of Instagram, i.e. - ability to share photographs on multiple social networking sites, and also the choice of 'not' sharing an image on Facebook. Zuckerberg's intention is to bring in Facebook's creative engineering and infrastructure to this app.

Here's what Zuckerberg shared in a recent wall post on his timeline:
"We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.
That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people."

Zuckerberg has also made it very clear that acquisition of Instagram should not leave a message that Facebook is looking to acquire more products or services, this was in a way 'an-exception' kind of a deal.
"This is an important milestone for Facebook because it's the first time we've ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don't plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.
We're looking forward to working with the Instagram team and to all of the great new experiences we're going to be able to build together."
Instagram is one of the best photo-sharing app that I've come across in a long time, and we just hope that this latest acquisition does not turn it into another Facebook for photographs. I would really like to believe in Zuckerberg's promise of not taking away the beauty and essence of Instagram and help it grow in its own signature style.

Instagram has more than 1 million users and this apps is very useful in facebook yet facebook were not the first to recognize this idea were not able to realize how important this idea to their existing application. So buying it is no brainer for them and one billion dollars is just only a coin compared to what the effect the instagram will bring to the facebook users.
