There is lot more to English language than 'lol' or 'brb' and Save The Words is on a noble mission to save the language and protect endangered species of words that have lost their meaning in todays time and age, where 'awesome' or 'cool' are more than enough to convey your heart-felt emotions.

"Each year, hundreds of words are dropped from the dictionary. Old words, wise words, hard-working words. Words that once led meaningful lives but now lie forsaken and forgotten. Each time you use as abandoned word you'll increase its chances of survival." describes the website.

Save The Words is an initiative by Oxford University Press, that allows you go through several unknown words, check out their meaning with an example, and if you decide to adopt that word, you will have to take a pledge to "use this word in conversation and correspondence, as frequently as possible to the best of your ability". Not only will you receive a certificate of adoption, you can also order a t-shirt with the word printed on it and take your commitment towards your newly adopted word a step further.

Its a fun website, with great design and tips on how you can make sure that you spread the word and remember to use it in everyday conversations; they also email you a new word everyday. Here are few words that I adopted this afternoon:

I love odd rarely used words like these and think it is a terrible shame the English language often appears to be heading towards ever more dull and unimaginative use. A few favourites of mine include ultracrepidarian, jobbernowl, fopdoodle and popinjay.

This idea really cheered me up today and I find it absolutely adorable, but more than anything important.
After living a life of filled with scaevity lately I like the idea of picking a word a week and adopting it. I like it!
